Game Development and My GarageBand Music

Posted by FateModified - October 27th, 2013

Thanks for reading my post, whoever you are, I'm honored. This is my first post, so I'll tell you a bit about myself. First off: Yes I am a person and, No I'm not an organization for charity. I chose the name "HelpThePoor" because I think there are a lot of people who do not have the comforts that others have, and I think people should help each other. Plus, who knows? I might be poor one day and needing help! :D

I started learning game development about 11 months ago in my spare time. I've loved video games since I was about 6 years old or so. Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Tetris, and Mega Man were some of my favorite games from NES. Super Meat Boy is probably my favorite game right now. Also, I LOVE music and recently started making some video game style music in GarageBand. I've uploaded four of my songs to NewGrounds so far, so I welcome any feedback you can give, any thoughts you have at all on my music so that I can learn from what you hear in my songs and use your feedback to improve my music. I play the electric guitar somewhere in the intermediate level, and I hope to add some recorded guitar to my songs in the future. Also, I plan on getting more advanced software, such as FL Studio, pretty soon to make better songs.

So far I have one game nearly completed, called "Memory Thump," which can be played on kongregate.com, and I have started working a bit on a retro-style game involving a fish that spits stuff at enemies to destroy them, similar to a space shooter game except with sea creatures instead of spaceships.

If you like any of my songs and want to use them in your project for others to see, please send me a private message to let me know. As of right now, all I ask is that you give me credit for my song(s) somewhere in the project. Thanks for reading!

Welcome to NG! You've got a good attitude about things, I think

Welcome Welcome Welcome~!
It's always good to see another intelligent, nice, reviewer among us.

Welcome to the site!

Thanks! It's an awesome site, and I'm glad to be on here.

I agree with the others! You have a great attitude!
Definitely get FL Studio! Learning a new program can be daunting and frustrating, but it's a very fruitful journey. If you're ever need help with it let me know!

Thanks! I actually really enjoy learning new software, maybe because I'm a programmer at heart. If I ever have any questions about FL Studio, though, I'll ask you. Thanks for your offer to help. I appreciate it!

Game developers and musicians might end up poor, but at least we love what we do. I added you to my favorites and am looking forward to the games you will make. Your retro-style idea sounds fun!

Great post and great attitude.

Thanks. I really hope my fellow game developers and musicians don't end up poor! I support anyone who has the courage to live a life doing what they love rather than being a slave to money.

Money is nothing except imaginary numbers invented by man. Man is 1 species out of a billion (I'm not a biologist, so this number is probably not very accurate) species on a planet orbiting the sun. The sun is 1 out of a 100 billion stars of the Milky Way galaxy. The Milky Way galaxy is 1 galaxy out of a 100 billion galaxies (from what our most advanced telescopes can see, so there are probably many more). Heck, no one really knows even if our universe is the only one. So in all this immensity of a creation, numbers called "money" invented by man really don't matter much. Anyway, that's my view!

If everyone did what they love and cared for and supported others, then I'm sure our little world here on planet Earth would be a much better place for all. Or maybe I am just a dreamer...
